Project ID: 420633-3
FDOT is developing a project to realign this one mile segment of US 17 from south of east 9th Street to north of east 3rd Street along the abandoned railroad corridor and Oak Street through Zolfo Springs in Hardee County. Crews will construct a concrete roadway with curb and gutter, seven foot bike lanes, sidewalks, and a 52-foot raised median that will separate two 11 foot northbound and two 11 foot southbound traffic lanes. Improvements include a new underground drainage system and two storm water ponds to manage water running off of the roadway. The existing US 17 will be turned over to the Town of Zolfo Springs.
CURRENT STATUS: PRE-CONSTRUCTION
The design phase is complete. Engineers have prepared the design plans and are obtaining the environmental permits needed to build the job.
FDOT will bid the project for construction in fall of 2016. Once a contractor is hired, more information will be available about their schedule and approach to construction activities.
